The Summary
The Construction Manager directs, coordinates budgets activities concerned with the construction of electrical project sites. Participates in the conceptual development of a construction project and oversee its organization, scheduling, and implementation.
Key responsibilities
· Values safety over and above all other considerations
· Work with superintendents, foremen and Project Managers to plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with all construction projects
· Fully comprehends Electrical theory and NFPA 70 National Electric Code
· May requisition supplies, materials, and sub-contractors to complete the project
· Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, etc.
· Confer with supervisory personnel, owners, contractors or design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints or construction problems
· Assist the Project Manager to prepare and submit budget estimates, progress reports or cost tracking reports
· Work closely with the Project Manager to interpret and understand plans and contract terms and be able to execute scope in accordance with contracted scope
· Plan, organize, or direct activities concerned with the construction or maintenance of structures, facilities, or systems
· Take actions effectively to deal with the results of delays, bad weather or emergencies at the construction site
· Inspect or review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, or other regulations and ensure contracted scope is completed
· Study job specifications, plans and scope to determine appropriate construction methods
· Direct and supervise all workers
· Investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures
· Perform underground layout and rough-in
· Possess skills to complete lower job title (apprentice) work
· Troubleshooting on motors and controls
· Install feeders, wire and conduit
· Switchgear and device installations and terminations
· Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
· Requires working in all elements, depending on job location (Indoors and Outdoors), time of year (heat, cold, rain, snow)
· Capable of digging trenches, either by use of hand tools or with power equipment
· Operate trenchers, back hoe, and lift in a safe manner
· Must be willing to travel out of market/state, for up to several weeks at a time (50-70%)
· Must pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
· May be required to work long and unpredictable hours
· Must possess valid driver’s license and are required to drive company vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
· 4 years previous electrical experience required
· Comprehends reading and drawing prints and schematics
· Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods and the ability to manage and work within a budget
· Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
· Proven working experience in tower & electrical construction management
· Familiarity with construction management software package
· Communicate in person, by phone with all site personnel
· Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
· Must be able to work with a team, and independently as required
· Must be able to lead a construction crew to complete projects
· Competent in conflict and crisis management
· Leadership and human resources management skills
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position with a typical work schedule of Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with overtime requirements.
Travel
Travel is required for this position. Usually between 50% to 70% of the time.
Required Education and Experience
· Bachelors of Science degree in construction management, architecture, engineering or related field preferred
· Five years’ experience in tower construction management
