Summary
The Splicing Technician specializes in terminating fiber optic cables to expand telecommunications networks into new areas or to replace existing lines. They also troubleshoot and perform maintenance to resolve signal problems. In addition, this position helps to support the OSP construction team in placing cable and locating existing cable/duct.
This is a safety-sensitive position.
Key Responsibilities
Safety First – Put safety first and production second. Always.
Perform cable installation, construction, maintenance, and repair work.
Assist the OSP construction team in placing cable and locating existing cable/duct.
Locate and repair cable faults to maintain the existing cable network without causing signal failure interruptions.
Validate and test end-to-end service provisioning for the cable network.
Confirm accurate cable terminations on cross-connect, patch panels, hubs, and routers.
Review site surveys, condition discrepancy reports, design drawings, and technical manuals for cable installation feasibility.
Understand construction prints and splice schematics.
Maintain project tracing information such as production sheets, time sheets, and customer-required paperwork.
Retain knowledge in all types of splicing activity, cable and safety test equipment, and the use of all types of cable construction equipment.
Maintain a safe and secure work environment by complying with government standards and legal regulations.
Must continue to work towards training and certifications for work-related jobs.
Ensure the highest level of safety and quality control requirements are upheld.

Physical Demands
This job operates in a field environment. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to routinely bend, squat, climb, kneel, push, pull, lift 50lbs or more, lift in awkward positions, stand, and twist for extended periods.
Must be able to clearly see color and shading in plans and materials.
Must be willing to travel out of market/state for up to several months at a time (90%).
May be required to work long and unpredictable hours.
Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background, drug testing, and DOT physical.
Must be willing to work in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive company vehicles. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications
Technical Skills:
Must be able to work in a team environment and be a valued member of the crew and the company.
Manage pole climbing, working at heights, handling ladders, pushing, pulling, and bending equipment.
Must be detail-oriented with a passion for accuracy.
Must have successfully completed industrial first aid and rescue training.
Must be able to read and understand drawings, piping diagrams, job specifications, mounting specs, testing procedures, etc.
Must have a valid driver’s license and CDL License.
Soft Skills:
Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and by email with team members and clients.
Must be self-motivated with the desire to learn new things and project a positive attitude toward others in all work-related settings.
Must be able to read, comprehend and carry out instructions.
Must be able to work on a team and independently as required.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position.
Workdays and hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some overtime requirements.
Travel
Weekly travel is required for this position. Usually between 80 to 100% of the time.
Education and Experience
Required:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
Desired:
Previous splicing experience a plus.
Related trade school education or apprenticeship.
