Senior Field Engineer – Ohio State University Full Time

Job Summary 

ANS is seeking a Senior Field Engineer who will be responsible for various tasks from training, documentation, documentation review, customer support and engineering support.  They oversee and provide technical support both on and off site, helping the overall operation run efficiently.

Responsibilities 

• Instruct and train engineers to complete RF and site surveys for building construction.
• Review RF and site survey packages for accuracy and details.
• Maintain knowledge of construction techniques.
• Review designs for pathways and equipment placement.
• Make design adjustments or work with other engineers to create design adjustments that will provide a proper solution to the customer.
• Interpret customer requirements and relaying customer requirements to the proper parties for quoting and designs.
• Create methods of procedure (MOPs) for installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Research product specifications and installation materials.
• Establish and maintain relationships with material vendors, on-site personnel, customers, iBwave and other engineers.
• Create and/or review of redlines, as-builts and close-out packages for accuracy.
• Relay information from the field to the proper resources to document change orders.
• Work with quoting engineers to ensure quote accuracy.
• Learn, communicate and update internal databases with any changes or modifications in equipment installation practices.
• Prepare timely operations support documentation.
• Offer after-sales support services.
• Provide technical support to installation and operations teams.
• Aid as needed, PIM/Sweep testing, OTDR testing, equipment greenlighting and commissioning of wireless systems.
• Maintain constant and effective communication with internal teams regarding on-going jobs.
• Participate in weekly internal or external conference calls with external and internal teams.
• Identify, monitor, report, escalate, and resolve project related issues accurately.
• Support on call duties, night shift rotations, weekend, and special events when required by customers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

• Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Engineering and/or prior experience in the telecommunications industry, including carrier, 2-way radio, microwave and fiber systems or similar
• Proficient with iBwave Design/Viewer.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The employee must be able and willing to travel locally to reach customer and network locations or local events and regularly work in outdoor weather conditions. • The employee is regularly required to communicate with customers and co-workers in a clear and straight forward manner
• The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and will be standing during most of the day. The employee will frequently service network equipment and position self to access network equipment in small remote cabinets, vaults, and buildings with limited space to work. Additionally, work may be performed near power lines, electricity, gas lines, and other utility lines
• The employee must regularly carry, move, push, pull, install, and/or remove tools and equipment weighing 20 to 50 pounds (and frequently 50 to 100 pounds).
• The employee must be physically able to safely operate a variety of machinery and equipment
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision (specifically the ability to differentiate between varied sizes and colors of wires), peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus
• The employee must occasionally be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time and operate a computer and other office equipment

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a Full-Time Exempt position. Days and hours of work are Generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. An appropriate level of communication about expected hours of work between the remote employee and supervisor will be agreed to as part of the discussion process and will be more formal during the trial period. With on call duties as assigned relating to ANS Advanced Network Services user issues after hours, weekends, and holidays.
