Short Job Description:
The Tower Technician Level III is a senior field position responsible for leading and executing complex wireless tower construction, modification, and maintenance activities. In addition to performing all duties associated with Tower Technician Levels I and II, this role performs advanced tower-top work, provides on‑site technical leadership, and serves as a Crew Lead or Lead Climber when assigned. The Level III Technician is expected to mentor junior technicians, enforce safety standards, and act as a technical and leadership resource on high‑risk, high‑complexity projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the construction, modification, and maintenance of cellular towers up to and exceeding 300 ft+.
- Perform complex tower‑top work, including advanced antenna and radio installations.
- Install and configure carrier‑specific hardware and mounting solutions.
- Perform fiber, hybrid, and coax installations and terminations.
- Oversee and perform AC and DC power installations.
- Install and verify grounding and bonding systems.
- Execute technology modernizations and equipment swaps.
- Lead and support fiber testing, sweep testing, and troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure all testing and installations meet carrier QA/QC standards.
- Support and execute decommissioning activities and site transitions.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in real time with minimal supervision.
Leadership and Oversight
- Serve as Crew Lead or Lead Climber when assigned.
- Direct daily job tasks, sequencing, and execution to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Provide on‑the‑job mentoring and training to Tower Technician Levels I and II.
- Train junior technicians on climbing techniques, rigging practices, and installation standards.
- Reinforce jobsite safety expectations and safe work practices.
- Enforce safety procedures, stop‑work authority, and site compliance at all times.
- Assist supervisors with field reporting, documentation, and work validation.
Quality, Safety, and Documentation
- Lead and participate in QA audits.
- Ensure all work meets or exceeds carrier standards, OSHA requirements, and company safety policies.
- Review, complete, and submit accurate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Utilize required software platforms for documentation, site closeouts, and carrier deliverables.
- Act as a primary field point of contact for the Field Supervisor and Project Manager.
Job Requirements:
Required:
- Minimum of five (5) years of tower construction experience with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
- Proven experience serving as a Lead Climber or Crew Lead.
- Advanced knowledge of tower and rooftop construction practices.
- Advanced knowledge of rigging and hoisting techniques.
- Strong working knowledge of carrier installation standards; multi‑carrier experience preferred.
- Ability to supply required personal hand tools (company list available).
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and at extreme heights.
- Willingness and availability to travel in‑state and out‑of‑state as required.
- Strong ability to work independently and lead teams in high‑risk environments.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Must pass background and drug screening (no felony charges).
- Must maintain a clean driving record with no DUIs.
Preferred:
- Multi‑carrier installation experience.
- Advanced troubleshooting experience on complex tower builds or modernizations.
- Experience leading large‑scale tower upgrades, conversions, or site transitions.
